I've held onto this painting for a very long time, finally I think I am ready to let it go. Do you recognise the place? If you've ever driven the ring road around Geelong - you might... I remember sitting in the passenger seat with my dear friend Mick Sowry and we were driving up to the overpass going to surf - and he said "Harls I don't understand how you haven't painted this bridge yet?". For years I had wanted to - but I just did not have the right angle/feeling/ inspiration. Literally in the second he finished the sentence this whole image popped into my head. The sculpture is Mary... But she has no hands and cannot hold that she needs to heal. I had a special person in mind when I painted it. Like alot of my paintings this image faces West... And the little protagonist on the monkey bike is heading East (maybe me)... There are alot of beautiful paint layers to this painting, there are many reasons I've held onto this painting for years.
